My Manuscript Wish List®
Veronica Goldstein is an agent with over ten years of experience, having previously worked at UTA and Fletcher & Company. She’s drawn to distinctive voices with a fresh story to tell and a strong sense of urgency, especially Americans whose stories have been underrepresented in publishing and international writers.
In nonfiction, she’s looking for compelling critical takes on cultural and sociological trends and overlooked or misunderstood histories; investigative and issue-focused narrative nonfiction; and powerfully written memoir that makes the personal political and vice versa (Naomi Klein, Rachel Aviv, Emmeline Clein, Cathy Park Hong, Chloé Cooper Jones, Sarah Smarsh). Anything with a feminist bent, pop culture, science, technology, politics, current affairs, and writing about the natural world are always of interest.
In fiction, she looks for literary and upmarket novels with an original, contemporary voice that balance the complexities of culture and politics with can’t-put-it-down storytelling with deep emotional stakes (Elif Batuman, Sally Rooney). Grounded speculative fiction, work in translation, and creative forms are always of interest (Alissa Nutting, Charles Yu, Helen Phillips, Sheila Heti, Maria Gainza).
Her clients include Jennifer Nansubuga Makumbi (A Girl is a Body of Water); Erika Howsare (The Age of Deer); Jeff Weiss (Waiting for Britney Spears); and Pria Anand (The Mind Electric). Forthcoming titles include Liar’s Dice by Juliet Faithfull; Honest Motherhood by Libby Ward; and Aging Out by Lucy Schiller. Authors that Veronica has had the honor of representing have won and been nominated for the PEN/EO Wilson Literary Science Writing Award, the PEN/Open Book Award, the Jhalak Prize, the Minnesota Book Award, the Aspen Words Literary Prize, the Irish Writers Centre’s Novel Prize, and been supported by fellowships with Grub Street, Breadloaf, and Tin House.
Veronica is a graduate of Occidental College, and has worked in education, academic publishing, and Spanish translation and interpretation. She lives in her hometown of Philadelphia.
