My Manuscript Wish List®

There are three things I’m looking for in every project:

  • a high-concept hook with skillful use of tropes
  • upmarket commercial writing
  • a fully immersive, propulsive read

Almost everything I acquire can be summed up as trope-filled commercial fiction with a fresh feel; I find that new spin usually comes from voices who have traditionally been kept out of the market—so send me all your trope-y reads from marginalized authors! In particular, my list has always included a majority proportion of queer authors and/or projects about queer characters (authors need never disclose any aspect of their personal life to Entangled or the public).

Additionally, for Entangled I’m specifically on the lookout for projects with *franchise potential.* Entangled is in a unique position to support authors in exploiting tv/film and merchandising opportunities, and we’re looking to expand our stable of big-brand, tentpole house authors.

I’m active acquiring in these areas (though don’t limit yourself to just these!):

  • dark fantasy, including dark academia
  • romantasy with queer characters, why-choose/poly romance, or non-traditional heroes
  • cozy romantasy with a lot of feelings
  • spicy sports romcoms, particularly hockey & F1
  • angsty contemporary romance with a high-concept hook
  • book club fiction for the Gen Z reader, especially with a light speculative twist or inventive structure (takes place of twenty-four hours, out-of-order timeline, two POVs where one goes forward in time and the other goes backwards, etc.)

Titles I’ve acquired and edited that are good indicators of my taste:

  • Gwen and Art Are Not in Love
  • Don’t Want You Like a Best Friend & You’re the Problem, It’s You
  • We Could Be So Good
  • The In-Between Bookstore
  • The Death of Jane Lawrence
  • This Will Be Fun
  • The Build-a-Boyfriend Project
