Jynastie Wilson

LCS Literary Agency

My Manuscript Wish List®

Jynastie Wilson (she/they) is an Assistant Literary Agent at The LCS Literary Agency where she started off as a Literary Intern. When she’s not agenting, you can find her playing video games with her partner, reading a queer novel, or journaling.

PICTURE BOOKS

Jynastie is currently very selective with picture books. She’s mainly looking to represent author-illustrators, but they’re willing to take a look at any queries or text dummies from authors. If your picture book is heartwarming with a BIPOC focus, like EYES THAT KISS IN THE CORNERS and PALETERO MAN, or if it takes inspiration from the imagination of children, like DRAGONBOY or PETE THE CAT, then feel free to send it their way.

GRAPHIC NOVELS

Jynastie is open to graphic novels in all subgenres for both middle grade and young adult audiences. Though, at this moment in time, they are only looking for author-illustrators or illustrators. They are looking for both soft, slice-of-life fantasy and emotionally complex contemporary. For the first, think the television shows ADVENTURE TIME and AMPHIBIA or the graphic novels MOONCAKES and LIGHTFALL. And for the latter, think of the graphic novels FRIZZY, ROLLER GIRLSUNNY SIDE UP, and BLOOM. She would love to see more uncommon family dynamics and living situations, SQUISHED, and chronic illnesses, GHOSTS, represented.

MIDDLE GRADE

Jynastie is open to middle grade novels in all subgenres, except for non-fiction. As a child that grew up wishing more characters in books looked like them, they will always prioritize authors that happen to be bipoc, queer, or disabled. They want to help foster a love for reading in every kid meaning that they would love to take on manuscripts that could work as standalones, but also have series potential. Middle grade horror is on the rise again, and they couldn’t be happier! They want everything supernatural – it doesn’t matter if it’s more lighthearted or spooky, please send it over. They would like to represent books that show the realities of life – meaning blended families, immigrant parents, and things not always going as expected. Think FRONT DESK and MEXIKID. She would be interested in representing a couple of books that feature age appropriate first crushes, kisses, and plenty of awkward moments. Children of color deserve their own FLIPPED. They also deserve to be awkward and still feel good about themselves. More FOUR EYES and JAWBREAKER. She would like to stay more on the magical realism side of things when it comes to middle grade fantasy, but she’d love to take a look at the retellings of bipoc myths, legends, and folklore. If you have any stories about friend or family groups working together to break curses, fight monsters, and be there for another, send them her way as well. Children are never alone.

One of her biggest wish list items in this age range is a survival story. When she was a kid, she found it fascinating to read about other kids who ended up having to survive in the wilderness and make their way back to society. Think OUT OF RANGE by Heidi Lang or a reimagined HATCHET.

YOUNG ADULT

Jynastie is open to young adult novels in all subgenres, except for non-fiction. They’ve recently found themselves to be quite the fan of all forms of young adult thrillers, so please send those her way. Especially if they happen to be a slasher that takes place over the course of one night or a boarding school that needs to be investigated. If you need some inspiration, think along the lines of LAST GIRLS STANDING, ACE OF SPADES, and ONE OF US IS LYINGShe consistently finds herself obsessing over swoon worthy romances, though she’d prefer if they were either queer (bonus points if one of the main character’s is pansexual) or bipoc. Please send more sapphic romances her way. They also typically prefer when the romances occur in unconventional ways. The fake dating trope happens to be one of their favorites. They would like to help put more magical realism/grounded in reality fantasy out into bookstores. But they are more than open to taking a look at high fantasy as long as it is either a part of a shorter series or a standalone. Some of their recent young adult fantasy reads have included A MAGIC STEEPED IN POISON, CINDERELLA IS DEAD, and THREADS THAT BIND. She’d love to see characters explore their cultural identity through food.

One of their biggest wish list items in this age range is a story that happens to be set against the backdrop of a climate disaster or other post apocalyptic society. ALL THAT’S LEFT IN THE WORLD by Erik J. Brown is quite literally their favorite book, and they need to continue feeling the way that book makes them feel.

ADULT

Jynastie is open to adult novels in only the romance subgenre. Once again, she would prefer that the main characters of these novels be queer and/or bipoc. She is a firm believer in soulmates, and would love to see that in the books that she represents. They would also like to see a novel in which a character and their love interest manage to consistently find one another over and over again. She would love to see like to see queer Victorian romances in her inbox, think DON’T WANT YOU LIKE A BEST FRIEND or a more mature, adult version of GWEN & ART ARE NOT IN LOVE. Workplace romances are cute! But only if they are done in the vein of the manga/anime WOTAKOI: LOVE IS HARD FOR OTAKU.

She would also love to represent authors of new adult books, especially ones that bridge the gap between young and adult. There should be something in the middle to help ease the transition from high school romances to older adult love. She would like to see authentic college platonic (see DEAR WENDY) and/or romantic relationships represented.

UNIVERSAL

The following are things that Jynastie is looking for in any genre.

  1. Stories that are told in unconventional ways (through text messages, podcasts, interviews, other documents, etc.) such as OUT OF CHARACTER and HOW TO FIND A MISSING GIRL
  2. Stories that feature a main character or love interest that is plus size (and that doesn’t have other characters speak negatively about their weight)
  3. Sibling adventures and shenanigans!
  4. Dead character media (please refer to this tweet)
  5. Space settings; THE LION OF MARS and THE DARKNESS OUTSIDE US
  6. Books written by Mexican, African-American, Indigenous, and/or non-binary authors
  7. The more red herrings in your mystery, the better
  8. More disabled main characters!

TROPES

The following are tropes or other minor things that Jynastie is looking for.

  1. Rivals to lovers
  2. The queer and/or bipoc reimaging of classics; see ANNE OF GREENVILLE or Pride and Prejudice and Pittsburgh
  3. Supporting woman’s rights & woman’s wrongs
  4. Grumpy x Sunshine friendships and romances
  5. SLOW BURN
  6. Found families

DEALBREAKERS

The following are things that Jynastie doesn’t believe she would be the best fit for.

  1. Stories that feature an animal main character or deal with an animal side character/pet passing away
  2. Graphic descriptions of self harm
  3. A stereotypical good girl falling for the bad boy; she’s always been more of a golden retriever fan
  4. Books that feature more than two or three POVS

Jynastie is NOT accepting submissions for Non-Fiction novels.

Jynastie is always accepting submissions from authors that are LGBTQ+, BIPOC, or that are marginalized in another way.

Fun facts about me:

I’m an avid manga, anime, and light novel enjoyer. I typically tend to stick to those that fall under the romance or slice-of-life genres, but Fullmetal Alchemist is definitely somewhere in my top three.
