My Manuscript Wish List®

Award-winning Senior Editor Faith Black Ross has spent the last two decades working in
publishing and has been with Crooked Lane Books since 2016. Prior to that she handled
mysteries and historical fiction for the Berkley Publishing Group (Penguin Random House),
handled US acquisitions for Severn House, and opened Faith Black Ross Editorial.

For Crooked Lane:
● Mystery: Particularly with strong female main characters and marginalized voices
○ Traditional
○ Cozy
○ Historical
● Thrillers
○ Psychological
○ Suspenseful
○ Upmarket
○ Historical
For Alcove Press:
● Book club fiction
● Upmarket women’s fiction
● Historical fiction: Predominantly 19th and 20th centuries
● She would love to receive projects perfect for fans of Paula McLain, Lauren Willig, Lucy
Foley, Claudia Gray, and Alan Bradley

Faith is always on the lookout for projects with strong voices, precocious protagonists, and a
touch of humor—dark humor included—especially if they involve history, fun settings, or food
and give her a good laugh (or a good cry, but nothing too mawkish – there’s a reason she stopped
watching This is Us). An Anglophile at heart, Faith is a sucker for a good UK-set story,
especially in the realms of historical fiction, historical mystery, and women’s fiction. She also
enjoys a clever retelling of a classic story.
