My Manuscript Wish List®

I represent adult and YA fiction and nonfiction, including commercial and literary fiction, upmarket fiction, contemporary fiction (contemporary YA in particular), mysteries (from hilarious cozies to gritty police procedurals and everything in between), historical fiction, magical realism, women’s fiction, psychological thrillers, literary/psychological horror, self-help, business, health/diet, cookbooks, memoir, relationships, current events, true crime, psychology, prescriptive nonfiction, and narrative nonfiction.

More specifically for fiction (YA and adult), I like books with diverse characters (especially #OwnVoices), familiar stories told from a different perspective (like Wide Sargasso Sea), well-researched, historical novels about famous writers, thinkers, movers and shakers (like Loving Frank), modernized myth/folklore retellings, Hamlet retellings, books set in the Victorian era, noir, locked room mysteries (like And Then There Were None), mysteries with a horror twist (like Drood, The Wild Inside or Night Film), and books featuring evil children (like The Bad Seed or We Need to Talk About Kevin) and female villainesses.  I love funny books and serious books.

More specifically for nonfiction, I’m looking for books on animal or plant psychology/behavior (such as The Hidden Life of Trees or Inside of a Dog), behavioral economics (such as The Secret Language of Money or Predictably Irrational), the connection between mind and body/between emotion and biology, narrative nonfiction about the history of something universal (like Rain: A Natural and Cultural History), American cultural studies that won’t be irrelevant in a few years, (such as studies on race (like The Color of Success or Pushout) and gender, Islamophobia, white supremacy/white extremists/the alt-right, Black Lives Matter, rape culture and the treatment of rape victims/rape accusers, cat-calling, the dark side of social media (like So You’ve Been Publicly Shamed), and any other topics that are culturally relevant).

Fun facts about me:

My dad coined the term “plug-in.”  I can put my feet behind my head, which is not nearly as impressive.  Though I am also good at falling and playing dead, as evidenced by my performances in various junior high plays.  Once my mom ran over my foot with the car and I danced three hours later.

Also, this is not my cat.  I’m allergic to cats.
