Amanda Jain

I am a literary agent with BookEnds Literary Agency seeking adult fiction and nonfiction. After earning a BA in English, I worked in the trade department at W. W. Norton for seven years before leaving to pursue graduate studies. I graduated in 2011 with a MA in the history of decorative arts.

I am primarily interested in adult fiction in the following categories: horror; historical fiction (in all genres); book club, upmarket, and literary fiction; romance (particularly historical or rom-coms); mysteries, suspense, and thrillers; and science fiction; along with narrative nonfiction in the areas of popular science, history, biography, social history, cultural studies, archaeology, art history, material culture, and food history.

In all cases, what I’m most looking for is a story that completely immerses the reader in the world of the book.

Some particular things I’m currently looking for:

-Journalistic nonfiction

-Gothic or psychological horror that plays with expected tropes and comments on culture in an interesting way

-Diverse historical romance. I’d love to see well-known time periods from a different perspective.

-A fun, voicey mystery series (think Sunshine Vicram or Finlay Donovan)

-A mystery standalone or series with a setting so strong and atmospheric that it’s almost another character in the book

-Engaging popular science that both entertains and informs
