While Alex will accept books from most fiction genres, she has examples of different things she’s looking for in her top genres. She is interested in: Romantic Comedies/Book Club Fiction (think The Flatshare by Beth O’Leary or The Matchmaker’s List by Sonya Lalli). She also is seeking Thrillers/Mysteries/Horror that delves from usual tropes and has an ending that will leave the reader gobsmacked. She is also interested in nonfiction true crime stories. Alex looks for main characters that are under-represented in fiction, such as, but not limited to, plus-sized, LGBTQAI+, and/or persons of colour.

Right now, Alex is looking for levity and is not interested in big emotional reads or trauma books. Thank you in advance!

Alex very much loves genre-blending, and sometimes she finds books that she normally wouldn’t be drawn to that she is obsessed with. Here’s what Alex is hoping to see land in my inbox in very specific terms;

  • Comedies! Hilarious family drama, and/or funny situations characters get themselves into. Anything that makes me laugh out loud! If it’s got a comedic element with a strong female, BIPOC or LGBTQIA+ protagonist, I want it, PLEASE!

  • Female-driven/LGBTQIA+/BIPOC-driven thrillers, especially if they’re messy, messy characters. I love a good ensemble cast and messy family dynamics—think LESSONS IN CHEMISTRY or MALIBU RISING. Do you have a DESPERATE HOUSEWIVES / REAL HOUSEWIVES-esque thriller? Please let me read it!

  • Thrillers in the same vein of Simone St James THE BOOK OF COLD CASES or THE SOULMATE by Sally Hepworth!

  • Female-driven/LGBTQIA+-driven/BIPOC action story that’s KNIVES OUT or clue in tone. Do you have a female spy novel? Yes, please!

  • Horror in the vein of SILENCE OF THE LAMBS, GET OUT, US. I want more mentally scary than visually scary. Also looking for horrors that have a bit of levity to them, like M3GAN.
  • Adult narratives set in the dance world, akin to “Black Swan,” that delve into the intense and often dramatic experiences within this competitive and captivating environment.
  • I’m seeking stories centered around art heists or set in the art world, capturing the intrigue and drama of this visually rich and culturally significant milieu.
  • Non-fiction that feels stranger than fiction— the like how is this real life but it is real life kind of nonfiction. Something that really blows people’s minds.

  • Medical thrillers or Medical soap operas that are in a book. Basically, think of a book version of GREY’S ANATOMY.

  • Memoirs from women, members of the LGBTQIA+ community, or authors of color that are unique and underrepresented currently.
  • Romcoms that are heavy on the com. I loved LOVE IN THE TIME OF SERIAL KILLERS. I am a huge reality TV/TV buff, so I am obsessed with any Rom-Com that takes place on a set, whether it be film/TV stars or reality stars like ONE TO WATCH. Rom-coms with diverse lead characters are ALWAYS of interest! Multicultural Rom-Coms, too, please! Whatever the story, I want to LAUGH and SWOON!
  • Romantic comedies featuring older protagonists, ideally aged 35 and above, that explore the unique challenges and joys of finding love later in life!
  • Fresh takes on the procedural genre, particularly international detective series or thrillers that spotlight a unique detective or law enforcement character at their core.

  • TRUE CRIME in NonFiction! I am ALWAYS looking for true crime! If you have a true crime like SCAMANDA, DANCING WITH THE DEVIL, THE JINX, CASEFILES, or MURDAUGH MURDERS, I want to read it. Please. Please, please, please.

  • A male counterpart to “Big Little Lies,” possibly focusing on a group of dads entangled in the drama surrounding their sons’ football team. I’m interested in a narrative that offers a uniquely male perspective while maintaining a soapy, engrossing feel.

Those are some of the specifics of what I’m looking for, but if you have something outside of those realms that land in the following genres, please feel free to submit it to me as well;

  • Psychological and domestic thrillers

  • Domestic Suspense

  • Romantic Comedies

  • Book Club Fiction

  • Horror

  • True Crime

  • MCs that are members of the LGBQTIA+ community, ND, BIPOC, Plus-sized, mental health representation.

  • Multicultural characters and stories

Please note, Alex only accepts un-agented submissions via Query Tracker.

She is not interested in fantasy, science fiction, erotica, religious fiction/nonfiction, COVID-related books, political fiction/nonfiction, novellas, children’s fiction, or middle grade.
