My Manuscript Wish List®
With a BA in English: Editing, Writing, and Media and a minor in Women’s Studies under my belt and experience aiding authors through the process of publication, I am working to build my list of literary and upmarket adult fiction. My Latine upbringing has drawn me to projects that explore:
- Adaptation: Touch on emigration, americanization, culture shock, outsider perspective, “from here nor there” experience
- Cultural identity: Portray the Latine experience in the US, the marginalized and underrepresented experience, strong historical and cultural influence
- Family dynamics: Include complex family dynamics, especially as influenced by culture
- Food: Use food as a way to reconnect with heritage and as central to the plot, themes, or setting
- Code-switching: Intentionally and seamlessly blend English and Spanish
- Womanhood: Explore womanhood and the feminine experience and its intersectionality with culture
- Elements of speculative and magical realism: Bring a hint of the out-of-this-world to the real and mundane; subtly blur the lines between dream and reality; show far-fetched hypothetical futures
