Emilia Sowersby

Hi, I’m Emilia! I am an associate editor at Roaring Brook Press, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. I’m actively seeking projects in YA and middle grade fiction, graphic novels, and select picture books. I’m always looking for underrepresented and unique voices across all categories.

What I’m Looking For

YA: I primarily acquire genre fiction including fantasy, romcom, horror, and mystery. I am hungry for smart escapism, detailed world-building, and stories that can make me laugh and cry in the same chapter. I’d like to see unique characters who make me change my mind about something, fresh takes on familiar tropes, and memorable worlds that stick with me. I’m always excited by something that blends genres together. Do you have a whodunit set in a cozy fantasy world? Send it to me!

MG: I’m looking for humorous and heartfelt stories about friendship, family, growing up, or dealing with a hard thing. I’d love to see works that tackle big, complex themes in a kid-friendly way, and with a compulsively readable and unforgettable voice. I’m searching for both contemporary and magical stories that feel timeless and classic, but with fresh perspectives and punchy humor.

GN: I’m looking to acquire more graphic novels for young adult and middle grade readers. Send me cozy fantasy, quirky magical creatures, original fairy tales, and anything historical.

PB: I’m mainly seeking laugh-out-loud readalouds with strong characters and unforgettable art.

What I’m Not Looking For

Hard sci-fi, werewolves, anthologies, poetry, picture book biographies
