My Manuscript Wish List

I represent children’s literature, including picture books, middle grade, and young adult fiction, as well as select nonfiction. I’m looking for quirky, offbeat stories, or stories we’ve heard before but that are told in a new way or with a unique slant or point of view. Some of the topics I’m interested in are: women’s issues, feminism, equality, diversity, GLBTQ stories, the environment, climate change, history, the social sciences, STEM topics, mythology and retellings of classic stories from a new point of view, stories where adversity of some sort is mastered (although I’m steering clear of “the usual” forms of adversity). I’m eager to work with people of color and other authors who are under represented in publishing.

I’m not partial to novels written about or from the point of view of animals. I would really like to find a graphic novel, but it needs to be the right one. I’m interested in yarn bombing as a form of social protest, so that would be really cool to see in a YA or MG story. Also, I don’t like to read super scary things.

Fun facts about me:

I’m a bit allergic to cute things. I’ve been told I’m “clever” not “funny.” (What does that even mean?!) I have an unapologetic potty mouth.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should be emailed to querylinda@emeraldcityliterary.com

I’m open to middle grade and young adult submissions until February 19, 2018 and then will be closed until the summer. Send a short query letter to querylinda@emeraldcityliterary.com. Tell me a little bit about your manuscript and a little bit about you, not more than one page long. Include the first 20 pages of the manuscript in the body of your email, following your query. Do not send any attachments (or I will delete your query unread). My response time is very slow, but you may nudge me after 6 weeks if you haven’t heard back. I respond to all properly submitted queries.
