My Manuscript Wish List

I represent both literary and upmarket fiction, as well as narrative nonfiction; across all categories I am looking for books that are beautifully written while also containing a really good story, and I’m especially drawn to characters with a lot of depth and to voice-driven narratives. Dark and edgy is always a plus. In nonfiction, I’m particularly interested in story-driven narrative related to sports, food, history, science, pop-culture, literary memoir and journalism.

Favorite sub-genres:
I’d like the next…

My favorites include…

Some of my favorite novels and why: The History of Love’s quirky and lovable characters, and heart-wrenching story; The Tiger’s Wife’s elements of folklore; Once Upon a River’s strong female protagonist and rugged setting; Dept. of Speculation’s unique format and emotional insights; I also love dysfunctional family sagas like John Irving’s novels; interesting historical fiction with complicated and rich characters like Euphoria and Let the Great World Spin; and quirky, humorous fiction like Super Sad True Love Story and Then We Came to an End.

Some of my favorite nonfiction titles: Born to Run, Devil in the White City, A Shining Affliction, The Argonauts.  I like narrative that reads like fiction and tells a fascinating story about a little known subculture or time period.  I’m also interested in essays and thoughtful literary memoir by smart, edgy, analytical, feminist thinkers like Maggie Nelson, Allison Bechdel, and Leslie Jamison.
