My Manuscript Wish List

My absolute favorite genre is psychological thrillers, though I love mysteries of all kinds, from cozies to gritty police procedurals.  I love character-rich literary fiction.  I also love historical fiction and fiction set in foreign lands.  If you combine all of those elements and send me a psychological, historical, literary mystery set in a foreign land, I’d be thrilled.  I like books with multicultural and LGBT characters.  I also love familiar stories told from a different perspective.  (Wide Sargasso Sea, for example, is Jane Eyre, told from the POV of the crazy wife.)  And well-researched, historical novels about famous writers, thinkers, movers and shakers.  I love books with a strong sense of humor.  And I’m a sucker for anything having to do with Hamlet or Victorian London.  (All of this goes for YA and adult.)  I’m looking for serious, dark contemporary YA, and YA with a slight speculative twist (but no high fantasy or hard sci-fi, please).

On the nonfiction side, I like fresh prescriptive nonfiction with a strong hook and platform.  I love topics that incorporate psychology in some way, like behavioral economics (think Predictably Irrational).  I also love memoirs with a fascinating story and a voice I can’t put down.  And I’d love to get more narrative nonfiction.

Fun facts about me:

My dad coined the term “plug-in.”  I can put my feet behind my head, which is not nearly as impressive.  Though I am also good at falling and playing dead, as evidenced by my performances in various junior high plays.  Once my mom ran over my foot with the car and I danced three hours later.
