Art. Patience. Strategy.

My passion as an agent is strategizing profitable long-term careers with my authors. I want clients to love the books they write and make money writing them. Crafting that kind of balance between artistic and commercial success takes communication, teamwork and a focus on “Art. Patience. Strategy.”

Cheers,

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should be emailed to saraquery@megibowliterary.com

Yes, I am open to submissions!
  • I represent authors who write science fiction, fantasy and/or horror for the adult market (all sub-genres), romance novels for the adult market (all sub-genres), fiction and nonfiction for the middle grade and young adult markets (all sub-genres) and picture books (fiction and nonfiction/ all sub-genres/ author-only or author+illustrator).
  • I don’t represent self-published or previously-published books. I also don’t represent memoir, self help books or commercial or literary fiction.
  • To submit, please email a query letter with the first 10 pages of your manuscript in the body of that email (not as an attachment). Please include your author website if you have one. I’m not fussy about your bio or social media numbers – include them or don’t include them – they are neither a deal-maker nor a deal-breaker for me.

  • There is a lot of talk about comp titles in queries. I can’t speak for all agents but, for me, they aren’t essential. If you do include comps, it’s helpful if they are for books published within the past three years.

  • Here are things I do look for in the query:  genre, word count and the word “completed.”

  • As for the query itself – the pitch (the “meat” of the query) should be a 1-2 paragraph description of your book as it might appear on the back cover upon publication.
  • Absolutely all submissions receive a response! I read all queries myself and my current turn around time is roughly 3-6 weeks. Please note that no critiques or feedback are included in passes. Also, a pass from one agent at Megibow Literary is a pass from all.

  • If you’ve not received a response after 8 weeks, it is completely ok to check in via email. If you receive an offer of representation while your submission is in my queue, please let me know. I don’t need updates when other agents request a full or a revision, though.

  • I don’t accept pitches via querytracker, social media, phone, mail or on any other platforms other than email. Occasionally, I do attend conferences and will take pitches in person – watch my Publishers Marketplace site (under “Trade References”) for my conference schedule.

  • If I’ve passed once on a manuscript, I might reconsider it if it’s been thoroughly revised. Please query again and ask – using a new email thread.
  • Please note that clients are asked, “Did generative AI write this book?” If the answer is yes then it is not a manuscript I will represent.
The correct email address for submissions is: sa*******@*************ry.com
