My Manuscript Wish List®
I am not currently accepting un-agented submissions.
I’m seeking adult fiction in the speculative area, including fantasy, science fiction, horror, weird fiction, and speculative fiction. Primarily I will acquire novels and series, but I am also open to short novels/novellas.
Good hooks and interesting concepts are the way to my heart, and I love a strong voice with personality, in all sub-genres. Genre bending is interesting to me, particularly when trying something new or odd.
I like a sense of humor (DUNGEON CRAWLER CARL by Matt Dinniman, DREADFUL by Caitlin Rozakis and IN THE LIVE OF PUPPETS by T.J. Klune, etc.) and my twee tolerance is high.
However, I am also drawn to the darker side of things. Some of my favorite books from the past few years are HOW HIGH WE GO IN THE DARK by Sequoia Nagamatsu and the Scholomance series by Naomi Novik. In general, it’s hard to make something too dark for my tastes, as long as it is interesting.
I love books that explore the difference between being a human and being a person, whether that is androids, aliens, or animals. Ray Nayler’s works are good example, as is Princess Donut from Dungeon Crawler Carl.
Grumpy/sunshine pairings are delightful in any manner of relationship, and I enjoy an enemies to lovers subplot. I’m not particularly looking for romance centered stories, but you might get me with a cute queer romantic fantasy.
I’m looking for authors of diverse backgrounds, particularly queer, trans and Latinx authors.
Fantasy
I would love one of each subgenre of fantasy!
Epic fantasy – I recently liked THE RAVEN SCHOLAR by Antonia Hodgson and THE WILL OF THE MANY by James Islington.
Historical – I’m up for any time period and location! Some authors I like are Freya Marske, Olivia Atwater, and Heather Fawcett.
Cozy fantasy – Some nice and sweet books would be lovely! Books like works by T.J. Klune, Caitlin Rozakis, Maiga Doocy and T. Kingfisher would be a great fit.
Dark academia – I’m a sucker for it! I loved A STUDY IN DROWNING by Ava Reid, THE WILL OF THE MANY by James Islington, the Scholomance series by Naomi Novik, and PIRANESI by Susanna Clarke, among others.
Isekai – I’ve become obsessed with mangwa in the past few years and would love a great isekai novel, whether it is someone ending up in a book they were reading, or someone going back in time after they were killed and try to survive.
LitRPG – I would love a great LitRPG series, and I have experience with them. For instance, I’ve worked with Pirateaba of the Wandering Inn.
Gods – I like interesting gods and religious structures in books. I have a strong interest in cults so if you include that in a book, you have my attention.
I’m open to any sub-genre, even if I haven’t listed or heard about it yet.
Science fiction
For science fiction, it needs to be able to stand out via the concept or setting. I like all subgenres, would like one of each! I love high concept SF, particularly when looking change at the societal level.
Some of my favorite science fiction books recently are A MEMORY CALLED EMPIRE by Arkady Martine, PROJECT HAIL MARY by Andy Weir, Ray Nayler’s TUSKS OF EXTINCTION, and IRON WIDOW by Xiran Jay Zhao.
I like science fiction when it combines with other genres like horror (Mira Grant books), mysteries (Mur Lafferty) and thrillers (John Marrs).
I like reveals of big secrets (WOOL by Hugh Howey, ELDER RACE by Adrian Tchaikovsky and the TV show Paradise).
Dystopian books seem to be coming back, so I would love to see some of those in my inbox as well!
Horror
For Archer, a book must have some sort of speculative or supernatural element, so slasher novels won’t be right for us.
I’m a big fan of creepypasta so books with those vibes are some of my favorites (such as MISTER MAGIC by Kiersten White, “Two Truths and a Lie” by Sarah Pinsker, and Kelly Link’s MAGIC FOR BEGINNERS).
I like existential horror, particularly of the unknown (think HOUSE OF LEAVES by Mark Z. Danielewski, THE CIPHER by Kathy Koja, A SHORT STAY IN HELL by Steven L. Peck), or books where reality isn’t what we think it is (COMFORT ME WITH APPLES by Catherynne M. Valente).
I enjoy historical horror (RING SHOUT by P. Djèlí Clark, and THE REFORMATORY by Tanarive Due ) and gothic novels of all kinds, including southern gothic.
Cosmic beings, ghosts, cryptids, or a new variety of human are all fair game! I love an interesting and unusual idea.
