Joffe Books
My Manuscript Wish List®
Hi, I’m Rachel! I joined Joffe Books as editorial director in September 2025. If you haven’t heard of Joffe Books, we’re one of the UK’s leading independent genre-fiction digital publishers, and our eBook sales are up there with the Big Five and Amazon’s imprints. In 2024 we sold over 3 million eBooks, plus the equivalent of another 6 million via Kindle Unlimited. Currently, around 60% of our sales are in the UK, and 40% in the US. We spend over £1.5 million annually on advertising, and over £1,000 per week on all new authors, as our aim is to turn every single book we publish into a digital bestseller (though we do also love print, and publish lovely paperback editions too). Our authors and our amazing readers are at the heart of all we do!
I am looking to acquire fantastic, page-turning crime, mysteries and thrillers for our main Joffe Books imprint. These can be brand-new and unpublished, but I am also actively looking to scoop up previously published series and standalones and republish them – bringing them to a whole new audience and a whole new level of sales. If you’re an established author with a self-pubbed backlist or your rights have reverted from your traditional publisher, I’m interested!
Our authors come from all walks of life, and all around the world, and I am very much open to diverse books and diverse authors. I am open to debuts as well as books from established authors.
What I’m looking for:
I love a series! I’m looking to acquire both brand-new and previously-published series in the following genres, set either in the UK or the US:
- Character-driven police procedurals with strong regional settings. I am totally open to big cities, but I would particularly love to see small towns and rural and coastal communities. I’d love a series set in Scotland, and there’s definitely room on my list for more American female cops. (I’m also open to foreign settings, but with a British or American protagonist – think Death in Paradise!)
- Contemporary cozy mysteries, ideally with a female protagonist. Feline and canine sidekicks a bonus 😉
- Golden age 1920s/30s cozy mysteries, with a female protagonist
- Action/adventure thrillers, with a male protagonist who’s ex-SAS or armed forces, or the US equivalent (Delta Force, SEALs, etc)
- And I’m also on the lookout for a really good US thriller series or two with a female FBI agent
I am also super keen to acquire standalones in the following genres – again, I’m completely open to brand-new books and backlist:
- Psychological thrillers and domestic suspense, set in the UK or the US, with a female protagonist. I’m looking for a really strong hook here – blow me away with a premise that really reels me in.
What I’m NOT looking for:
I’m not currently looking for books outside of crime, mystery and thriller. (Feel free to submit romance and sagas to our submissions inbox, to be considered for our Choc Lit imprint.)
