My Manuscript Wish List®
Hello! My name is Nicolás (Nico) Ore-Giron and I am an Assistant Editor at Roaring Brook Press, an imprint of Macmillan Children’s Publishing Group. I am actively acquiring young adult (crossover welcome), middle grade, graphic novels, and picture books.
I am drawn to:
- High concepts with literary writing!
- Queer romcoms
- Speculative romance (from cozy fantasy like LEGENDS & LATTES to slight speculative twists like YOU’VE REACHED SAM)
- High fantasy with sharp worldbuilding and an unique magic system
- Epic and sweeping historical fantasy in a non-European setting
- Literary coming of age with a strong concept (like LIBERTAD, PATRON SAINTS OF NOTHING, and LAST NIGHT AT THE TELEGRAPH CLUB)
- Sci-fi with strong political themes
- Complex friendships and family dynamics
- Morally gray characters
- Historical fiction that feels fresh and subversive in its perspective
- Stories set in the Southwest
- Character driven stories with a distinct voice
- Genre bending/mashing
For nonfiction: I am interested in critical, well-researched books with anti-colonial, anti-imperial, and anti-capitalist themes. History is a huge plus! Historiography is even better!
I am especially interested in stories by/about traditionally underrepresented communities. Projects by authors of color, trans authors, and disabled authors please!
Fun facts about me:
I have a dog named Pickle.
