Fiction with clear commercial hooks and child-centered, social-emotional learning themes of compassion, fictionally-driven narratives with educational value that highlight systemic disparity (civics/social justice), friendship & community, self-esteem, imagination, and developmental moments. Mischievous humor and laughable / tender-hearted moments to share between caregiver and child. Playful language. Fictionally-driven STEAM.
YOUNG ADULT:
Voice-driven science fiction and light or high fantasy with strong character-building, literary writing, and commercial appeal. Genre-bending, lighthearted fairy tale romantasy, romantic magical realism, monster-filled dark fantasy, dystopian action-adventure, mutant superpowers, the living dead, spirits of nature, folklore, and diverse points of view. Strongly prefer standalones.
Cozy Fantasy:
Warm. Whimsical. Where magic meets smaller scale conflict. Everyday people with magical problems or magic-infused professions.
Monsters as Protagonists:
Beasties typically slain in adventures as heroes of their own stories. Inspired by folklore, authored by underrepresented voices.
Space Opera:
Accessible worldbuilding. Cross-planet political intrigue, interstellar travel, with big ol’ mecha. LGBTQ+ rep in science fiction.
