For nonfiction, Eden is interested in smart sociopolitical commentaries and big idea books, in the vein of Amanda Montell and Jenny Odell. She’s especially interested in books that break down things like billionaire and celebrity worship, parasocial relationships, communal justice, and freedom through art. Otherwise, she’s also keen on narrative nonfiction books that tap into nostalgia, wonder, and the intersection of sci-fi/tech and nature, like Sabrina Imbler, Sy Montgomery, or Ed Yong. She’s looking for books that uplift and amplify the voices of authors of color, as well as queer/trans/nonbinary writings with good amounts of dry, witty humor—think Samantha Irby.
For fiction, at a wider angle, she’s primarily looking for character-driven narratives. Magical, speculative worlds that comment on our real world are a plus. She would absolutely jump at the opportunity to edit underrepresented authors, specifically stories told by APIDA voices. On a more specific level, Eden is looking for grounded, mythological/magical-tinged fantasy like N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy or R.F. Kuang’s THE POPPY WAR; deeply thoughtful speculative fiction like Amar El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone’s THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR or ethno/Afrofuturisms like Rivers Solomon’s THE DEEP; and introspective stories that focus on marginalized communities and building/creating space, but in a fun setting, like THE MINISTRY OF TIME by Kaliane Bradley, THE DEEP SKY by Yume Kitasei, or THE LAST GIFTS OF THE UNIVERSE by Riley August. Some other favorites of hers include THE ADVENTURES OF AMINA AL-SIRAFI by Shannon Chakraborty, TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW, AND TOMORROW by Gabrielle Zevin, and literally the entire UGLIES franchise (NOT the movie!!!).
Fun facts about me:
I love video games and technology. Any smart commentaries on these will instantly hook me.
