My Manuscript Wish List®

FOR NONFICTION: I’m interested in smart sociopolitical commentaries, in the vein of adrienne maree brown’s Emergent Strategy series. In terms of personal essays, I’m keen on the memoir-esque—books that tap into nostalgia, wonder, and the intersection of sci-fi/tech and nature, all through narrative, like Robin Wall Kimmerer’s BRAIDING SWEETGRASS or Jaime Green’s THE POSSIBILITY OF LIFE. Otherwise, I’m looking for projects that loudly and proudly uplift and amplify the voices of authors of color, like BETWEEN THE WORLD AND ME by Ta-Nehisi Coates or CRYING IN H MART by Michelle Zauner, as well as queer/trans/nonbinary writings with tinges of humor, like Samantha Irby or Jenny Lawson.

For fiction, at a wider angle, I’m primarily looking for character-driven narratives. Magical, speculative worlds that comment on our real world are a plus. I would absolutely jump at the opportunity to edit underrepresented authors, and more distinctly, stories told by APIDA voices. At a is looking specific level, I’m on the hunt for thought-provoking mythological/magical-tinged fantasy like N.K. Jemisin’s Broken Earth trilogy or R.F. Kuang’s THE POPPY WAR; deeply insightful speculative/Afrofuturisms like Amar El-Mohtar and Max Gladstone’s THIS IS HOW YOU LOSE THE TIME WAR or Rivers Solomon’s THE DEEP; and introspective stories that focus on marginalized community and building/creating space, maybe like YOU ARE HERE by Karin Lin-Greenberg. Some timeless favorites of hers include the works of Octavia Butler, Nalo Hopkinson, Toni Morrison, Zora Neale Hurston, and James Baldwin.
