My Manuscript Wish List

Penny Moore has always had a love of books, especially young adult and middle grade. While completing degrees in Linguistics and Japanese Language & Literature at the University of Georgia, she spent time studying comparative literature at top universities in Japan and South Korea. She then worked as a middle school TESOL teacher, which is where she solidified her passion for publishing and kids lit in particular. Penny joined Empire in 2016 as an agent after working at FinePrint Literary and while she’s interested in all genres, she’s specifically seeking inventive works featuring breakout voices and compelling plot lines in both YA and Middle Grade. She also has an interest in some platform commercial nonfiction. She represents Akemi Dawn Bowman, author of Starfish (Simon Pulse), hit Instagram illustrator Beth Evans, author of I Really Didn’t Think This Through (William Morrow), Nicki Pau Preto, author of Crown of Feathers (Simon Pulse), and picture book illustrator/author duo Chan Lee and Marina Ahn, Drawings for My Grandchildren (Putnam Children’s).

Fun facts about me:

I own two kittens named Freddie Mercury and Stevie Nicks.

Submission Guidelines

Submissions should be emailed to

Please send your query letter with QUERY + MS TITLE in the subject line, and the first ten pages of your MS pasted into the body of the email.

As a new addition from The Manuscript Academy, #MSWL’s educational sister company, we are now offering ten-minute e-meetings with a select group of our agents and editors to discuss your work, what you can do better–and how to maximize your chances of success in the submissions process. You’ll be able to pick from Skype, Hangouts, or a phone call–and, yes, this works internationally. Please see our FAQ, our step-by-step guide to booking your meeting, a list of participating agents and editors–and consider joining our Facebook group, a free, friendly community of writers cheering each other on through this process.

Please note: Meetings are posted once monthly, and then often sell out. If there are meetings available, you’ll see them bolded on the calendar below after clicking “Set Time Zone.”
