PS Literary Agency

My Manuscript Wish List

Kurestin Armada began her publishing career as an intern with Workman Publishing, and spent time as an assistant at The Lotts Agency before joining P.S. Literary. She holds a B.A. in English from Kenyon College, as well as a publishing certificate from Columbia University. Kurestin is based in New York City, and spends most of her time in the city’s thriving indie bookstores. She reads widely across genres, and has a particular affection for science fiction and fantasy, especially books that recognize and subvert typical tropes of genre fiction.

The #MSWL masterlist:

  • Horror like NIGHTFALL or The Babadook (NOT Saw) w/ chilling atmosphere & great hook!
  • Historical fiction where the city itself is a fully fleshed out character in its own right!
  • Science fiction that explores the future & past of the world, like REVELATION SPACE.
  • YA version of the young members of the Leverage team (Hardison, Eliot, and Parker)!
  • Historical fiction along the lines of THE MINIATURIST or THE GOLEM AND THE JINNI.
  • Commercial/upmarket fiction that handles family secrets/reconciliation w/tenderness like TELL THE WOLVES I’M HOME.
  • A girl gang YA! Something like the Pink Ladies or Teddy girls
  • Magic Realism, Fantasy, Science Fiction, Alternative History, Historical Fiction.
  • Young girls interested in STEM fields, both fiction and nonfiction!
  • SFF set in/inspired by non-European cultures, preferably #ownvoices
  • Female criminal masterminds, the full spectrum from evil kingpins to lovable thieves.
  • Retellings of fairy-tales & myths, w/ a twist. Different ending? Gender swapped? You tell me!
  • Heist/con story, YA or adult! Preferably with an interesting ensemble cast & friendship focus.
  • Action-packed sci-fi with powerful characters & motivations. Bonus: A big sprawling world.
  • Non-fiction Pop Psychology, Cooking, Design, Humor, Narrative, Photography
  • Commercial/upmarket fiction that handles family secrets/reconciliation w/tenderness like THE MEMORY GARDEN.
  • I love characters that are willing to get their hands dirty to reach their goal, that are sly and cunning and ruthless.
  • In romance, I prefer there to be something more than “will they get together”—maybe they save the town/kingdom/galaxy?
  • Romance authors, I want to see you in my inbox! Especially the out there, kinda weird stuff—not the traditional, small town vibe
  • Still on the hunt for my perfect, funny, adventurous MG—I love a MC w/a weird interest & lots of heart!
  • I see a lot of heirs who want nothing to do with ruling, or avoid training. I’d love one w/a sense of duty/responsibility
  • Fantasy (urban or otherwise) dealing with the diaspora of a magical community—how does the magic change/thrive?
  • Epic fantasy that’s truly ambitious, with a complex world and secrets around every corner
  • More cute queer contemporary romances, like EVERYTHING LEADS TO YOU or SIMON VS THE HOMO SAPIENS AGENDA

Guidelines & Details

Consultations

As a new addition from The Manuscript Academy, #MSWL’s educational sister company, we are now offering ten-minute e-meetings with a select group of our agents and editors to discuss your work, what you can do better–and how to maximize your chances of success in the submissions process. You’ll be able to pick from Skype, Hangouts, or a phone call–and, yes, this works internationally. Please see our FAQ, our step-by-step guide to booking your meeting, a list of participating agents and editors–and consider joining our Facebook group, a free, friendly community of writers cheering each other on through this process.

Please note: Meetings are posted once monthly, and then often sell out. If there are meetings available, you’ll see them bolded on the calendar below after clicking “Set Time Zone.”
