My Manuscript Wish List

I am interested in acquiring literary fiction, upmarket and commercial women’s fiction, and young adult, including mystery, suspense, magical realism, speculative, and chick lit, but excluding most hard genre fiction. In general I tend to be drawn to contemporary character- and relationship-driven narratives, dark story lines, and a healthy infusion of humor. Favorites include The Perks of Being a WallflowerThe AssistantsThe Wangs vs. the WorldEverything I Never Told YouThe Husband’s Secret, Homegoing, I’ll Give You the Sun, and The Interestings.

On the nonfiction side, I’m interested in a range of narrative nonfiction including memoir, biography, humor, pop culture, and investigative journalism on cultural and sociological topics Regardless of format, I love books that explore how and why we are the way we are as a society. Favorites vary from Bossypants and Hyperbole and a Half to The Immortal Life of Henrietta LacksIn Defense of FoodSo You’ve Been Publicly ShamedModern Romance, and One Day We’ll All Be Dead and None of This Will Matter.

Submission Guidelines

Agented submissions only, but unagented writers may book consultations (see below).

Consultations

As a new addition from The Manuscript Academy, #MSWL’s sister company, we are now offering ten-minute e-meetings with a select group of our agents and editors to discuss your work, what you can do better–and how to maximize your chances in the submissions process. You’ll be able to pick from Skype, Hangouts, or a phone call–and, yes, this works internationally. Please see our FAQ, our step-by-step guide to booking your meeting, a list of participating agents and editors–and consider joining our Facebook group, a free, friendly community of writers cheering each other on through this process.

Please note: Meetings are posted once monthly, and then often sell out. If there are meetings available, you’ll see them bolded on the calendar below after clicking “Set Time Zone.”
